With our Super Sterasyl you get pure drinking water from almost any freshwater source (e.g. a puddle) thanks to the triple combination effect of silver ions, ceramics and activated carbon.
The first stage gives the filter strong bacteriostatic and self-sterilising properties due to the ceramic impregnated with silver ions. These silver ions are toxic to bacteria and prevent the formation of mould and algae on the surface of the filter, thus maintaining the cleanliness of the filter surface. (The silver used in the ceramic is in particle form, much larger than nanoscale. Because the silver particles are incorporated into the ceramic before firing, they are held firmly in place in the finished product. The silver does not leach into the filtered water; this has been proven by leachate tests conducted on our Super Sterasyl as part of our NSF certification.)
In the second stage, the water flows through the millions of pores in the ceramic filter housing. These pores, which are 0.5 - 0.8 microns in size, trap impurities as the water flows through them. The inside of the ceramic is an intricate maze of sharp angles designed to catch any particles that have entered the outer surface. This filtration system mimics part of the earth's natural water purification process. Just as water percolates down through layers of rock on its journey, the water in a ceramic filter passes through natural media to rid itself of impurities.
The third stage with its coconut Shell activated Carbon is used to increase the adsorption capacity of the filter.
What can the Super Sterasyl filter out?
For sensational effectiveness in filtering out hormones, pesticides, drug residues, PCB's and much more please see our QUALITY FILTER TESTING LABORATORY, LLC test reports (under the "Tests" tab).
Chlorine is used in municipal water purification and leaves a bitter, chemical taste and odour. Activated carbon reduces both chlorine and chloramines.
Particles such as dirt, scale and rust are effectively filtered out by the porous surface of the ceramic filter.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) include a wide range of chemical contaminants that enter water from agricultural run-off to paints and pesticides. Activated carbon significantly reduces levels of VOCs.
Cloudiness is caused by suspended particles. These turn your water into unappetising shades of yellow and brown. The Super Sterasyl removes the cloudiness and makes the water crystal clear again.
Very few bacteria are smaller than one micron. Because they cannot pass through the pores, the bacteria are filtered out as the water seeps through the ceramic filter. The Super Sterasyl rids the water of pathogenic bacteria - such as cholera.
Confirmation and scientific recognition of the exceptional performance of the Super Sterasyl high performance range, officially endorsed by international test seals from the renowned laboratories of NSF International and WRAS Water Regulations Advisory Scheme Limited. They meet the highest standards for drinking water filters and the stringent BS EN ISO 9002: 1994 quality standards.
compatible with tanks with a minimum height of 14 cm
How often should I change the Super Sterasyl?
The Super Sterasyl should be replaced after 2000 litres or 6 months to maintain a safe filtering result.
Which cartridge can be combined with the Super Sterasyl?
Since the Super Sterasyl already contains activated carbon, we recommend our 3-step cartridge Energy-Vitality. The mix of different minerals energises your water so that life processes can run better.
What do I do if I don't use my Super Sterasyl for more than a week?
Let the Super Sterasyl dry thoroughly in a warm, dry place (the activated carbon inside needs more time than the ceramic outside) and then store it in a cool, dark place - away from chemicals and strong odours. When you put it back into operation, it is advisable to dispose of the first tank filling. Now your Super Sterasyl is ready for use again.
Why is my Super Sterasyl discoloured?
This is good news - your Super Sterasyl is working! All the discolouration has been trapped on the surface of the filter and is safely removed from your drinking water.
Is the Super Sterasyl BPA free?
Yes, all the plastic is BPA free and made from food grade polypropylene (PP).
Does the Super Sterasyl remove lime?
Calcium carbonate, colloquially known as "lime", is a chemical compound of (mainly) calcium and magnesium ions. These are not filtered out by the Super Sterasyl.
These minerals are usually deposited as slags in the connective tissue because they can only be transported into the cells with a great expenditure of energy. However, if the water is structured, our body can easily utilise the minerals contained in the water.
What is the difference between the DOME-FILTER® and the Super Sterasyl?
The Super Sterasyl lacks the 4th filter stage, which filters out the lead. It is precisely this filtering process that has greatly increased the flow time, so that the water flows through much faster with the Super Sterasyl.
